Fifty-six strategic projects are currently being developed by the Porto Metropolitan Area (AMP) in its 17 municipalities, with a total investment of over one billion euros. The figures were presented by the Metropolitan Executive Officer Andreia Ferreira at a meeting with councillors responsible for Economic Development, with the first intervention being conducted by the AMP’s Chief Executive Officer, Agostinho Branquinho.

The survey, which was made during the participation of the Metropolitan Area of Porto in the first edition of Forum Portugal Global Nation, reinforces the need to elaborate a Metropolitan Strategy for Economic Development, as provided for in the 2026 Plan of Activities of the AMP.

“It is necessary to see what we can do to help create, also in this area, a metropolitan spirit”, said Agostinho Branquinho, arguing that the territorial diversity of the region helps to “channel some investments into various areas”, with a view to a more harmonious development.

According to the Executive Officer Andreia Ferreira, the analysis carried out during the forum showed that there is already “a strong strategic convergence between metropolitan municipalities in areas such as industry, logistics, tourism, innovation, mobility, sustainability and qualification”.

In addition to the creation of a Metropolitan Economic Development Strategy, at the meeting of the AMP with the councillors of the region it was also decided to create a Metropolitan Working Group on Economic Development.

During the meeting, the AMP also presented its current main lines of work, with emphasis on the application to Call NORTE2030 – Local Qualification Collective Actions, aimed at creating instruments to support fundraising, economic intelligence, territorial promotion and business qualification.
