The public libraries in the Porto Metropolitan Area (AMP) have, as of today (June 23, 2026), 283 new computers to be used by citizens. This is an investment of more than €300,000, financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), which has also enabled the creation of a common digital collection of over 3.5 million documents available for public consultation across the region.

The measure, which covers the 17 municipalities of the AMP, aims to improve the response of the Public Libraries Metropolitan Network (RMBP-AMP) to the growing need for access to digital resources and services.

The 283 computers are intended exclusively for the use of readers and users of the RMBP-AMP libraries and aim to improve the conditions for study, research, learning, access to the Internet, use of digital resources and access to online public services.

There is also a new metropolitan catalogue, which allows to search, through a single platform, the documentary resources available in the municipal libraries of the network, simply by accessing bibliotecas.amp.pt. This new service facilitates the location and consultation of the existing collections in the different municipalities of the AMP, strengthening the cooperation between libraries and valuing a documentary heritage of more than 3.5 million documents.

The catalogue complements the digital offer already made available by the libraries of the network, which includes BiblioLED – Public Library of Digital Reading and Loan, operating since 2025. Through this platform, users can access e-books, audiobooks, newspapers and magazines in digital format free of charge, expanding the possibilities of access to reading, information and knowledge.

The new computers and catalogues represent an investment of €307,000 under the sub-measure “Acquisition of computer equipment, online travelling libraries and information systems and integrated catalogues for public libraries”, as part of the measure “Modernisation of the Technological Infrastructure of the Cultural Equipment Network”, financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), through investment RE-C04-i01 – Cultural Networks and Digital Transition.

AMP's Metropolitan Network of Public Libraries brings together the municipal libraries of the 17 municipalities of the region and serves a population of more than 1.8 million inhabitants, constituting one of the most relevant public reading networks in the country.
