The Porto Metropolitan Area (AMP) was recognised for its membership of the Portuguese Youth-Friendly Municipalities Network, promoted by the National Federation of Youth Associations (FNAJ), constituting itself as the only supra-municipal structure of the country to have all its 17 municipalities integrating this network.

This distinction recognizes the collective commitment of the 17 municipalities of the AMP in the promotion of aligned, sustained and future-oriented youth policies, highlighting a joint action in favour of the new generations.

The full integration of the AMP in this network represents not only a formal recognition, but also the reflection of a metropolitan strategy that values youth as the central line of territorial development.

The President of the Porto Metropolitan Council, Pedro Duarte, underlined the relevance of this strategic area: “We have some important deliberations, notably this one that has to do with the metropolitan youth strategy, and it is a very important area, to talk about the next generations, and it also shows a vision that we want to have to leave a legacy while we have political responsibilities.”

This distinction reinforces the ambition of the Porto Metropolitan Area to keep developing integrated public policies, promoting the participation, inclusion and empowerment of young people across the metropolitan territory.
