The Porto Metropolitan Area, by decision of the Metropolitan Council, has created a structure called the Metropolitan Youth Strategy Group, whose members took office at a ceremony presided over by the Vice-President of the Metropolitan Council, Jorge Vultos Sequeira.
This Strategy Group has advisory functions in the area of Youth, with the aim of sharing municipal practices and realities, analysing the implementation of public youth policies at local and supra-municipal level, and planning and/or coordinating cooperation strategies between the various agents that act directly or indirectly in the area of youth in the metropolitan territory, intervening as a relevant actor in the construction of public youth policies.
The creation of this Metropolitan Youth Strategy Group reflects the desire to mobilise and involve young people in the metropolitan area in decision-making processes on youth issues in conjunction with all areas that directly or indirectly affect their lives, providing a forum for consultation, deepening knowledge, and active involvement of all, as well as providing a forum for debate on matters related to municipal and intermunicipal policies developed in the field of youth, in conjunction with other sectoral areas such as employment, housing, health, education, social action, among others, always with the aim of strengthening metropolitan youth identity.
This structure includes the Mayors and/or Councillors responsible for Youth Affairs, two young representatives from each of the 17 municipalities in the Porto Metropolitan Area, representatives from various entities (Portuguese Institute for Sport and Youth, Erasmus + National Agency, National Council for Youth, National Federation of Youth Associations, Federation of the Porto Youth Associations, Federation of the Aveiro Youth Associations, Porto Academic Federation, Youth Foundation and National Association for Young Businesspeople), among others.
We believe that this structure will actively contribute to the development and evaluation of integrated and cohesive public youth policies, as well as ensure equal opportunities in the metropolitan area.
For the Porto Metropolitan Area, young people are the present, and it is with young people that the future is being built.
