On 3 and 4 February, the Porto Metropolitan Area (AMP) participated in the international meeting of the SportsCom project, which took place in Athens, coordinated by the local partner Regional Development Fund of Attica.
Led by AMP, the SportsCom consortium brings together European partners dedicated to developing community sports policies and practices that have an impact on social inclusion, promoting social skills and enhancing mental well-being, especially among the most vulnerable groups.
The metropolitan delegation was composed of Orlando Leal, Metropolitan Executive Officer, accompanied by representatives of local partners: Ricardo Moreira, from the Municipality of Porto, and Tânia Azevedo, from the Municipality of Gaia.
During the meeting, the AMP presented several best practices developed in the region, namely:
Desporto no Bairro (Sport in the Neighbourhood)
Missão Férias@Porto (Holidays@Porto Mission)
Handball4Health
Initiatives promoted by other European partners were also shared and discussed, which may inspire the adoption of new approaches in the metropolitan area. The delegation also had the opportunity to visit local projects promoting inclusion through sport and observe their impact on the ground.
The gathering also allowed for bilateral meetings and the preparation of future collaborations, strengthening the project and opening doors to the development of new international partnerships.
The next SportsCom international meeting is scheduled for June in the Krakow Metropolitan Area, in Poland.
