The Porto Metropolitan Area (AMP) held last Friday, June 6, 2025, the local kick-off meeting session of the European project SportsCom, a moment dedicated to the presentation of the initiative to the municipalities of the region and the launching of the Local Stakeholders Group (LSG).

This group – composed of  representatives from the AMP’s 17 municipalities, the IPDJ and also sport, health, social action and education entities and civil society – will be instrumental in supporting the local implementation of the project, leveraging the impact of best practices and solutions shared between the various European partners.

The SportsCom project is co-funded by the Interreg Europe programme and its main objective is to strengthen the effectiveness of public policies in the use of community sport as a tool to promote health and social resilience. SportsCom involves seven European partners – among metropolitan authorities, municipalities and regional development agencies – and runs from May 2025 to July 2029, with an overall budget of around €1.44 million.

Over four years, the AMP will be working with six international partners to exchange experiences and develop strategies that promote healthy lifestyles, with a focus on mental health, active ageing and social inclusion.

In this Friday's meeting were presented the objectives of the project, the main challenges to be addressed and the strategic role of the LSG as a space for reflection and co-construction of more effective local and supra-municipal policies in the field of community sport.

This project is aligned with the AMP’s 2030 Action Plan, reinforcing the metropolitan commitment to well-being, inclusion and innovation in public policies.
