THE FUTURE – a project of 100,000 trees in the Porto Metropolitan Area is part of a wide network of local, regional and national entities, as well as citizens, with the goal of creating urban native forests in the region and aiming at the reforestation of around 250 acres of derelict areas with 100,000 trees (oaks, coark oaks, arbutus, holly, among other trees).

The Future began in 2011 within the CRE.Porto – Regional Centre of Education of Excellence for the AMP’s Sustainable Development and its intervention area covers the several AMP’s municipalities. It seeks to diversify and upgrade the metropolitan landscape, improve air quality, increase the carbon carrying capacity, improve water regulation, stimulate biodiversity, improve the citizens’ quality of life and the region’s competitiveness. In a word, FUTURE. Because there is no future without trees.
