The Metropolitan Choir/Body began in 2021 as an innovative project of the Porto Metropolitan Area (AMP), inspired by the principles of the Metropolitan Charter for Culture 2023-2028 and integrated into the MATER 17 initiative. This social and cultural construction project was conceived as a collaborative artistic and musical practice, promoting networking between local authorities, technicians, cultural agents and members of the communities of the 17 municipalities of the AMP.

Artistic Residencies
In 2021, the Metropolitan Choir/Body held 17 artistic residencies, each dedicated to one of the municipalities of the AMP. These residencies allowed participants to explore and reinterpret the local tangible and intangible heritage, promoting a sense of identity and belonging to the region. The result was a collective show that reflected the cultural diversity of the metropolitan area.

Community Participation
The project emphasised the importance of community participation, involving citizens of different ages and backgrounds in artistic creation. Through workshops, rehearsals, and public performances, the Metropolitan Choir/Body provided a platform for cultural expression and the strengthening of community ties.
